Sound system set up
Setting up a sound system
To set up a sound system I will need XLR cables, power cables, speakers and a desk. To set all of this up you will first place the speakers how you want them in your set-up. While doing this you should make sure that you are powering the speakers and connecting XLR cables. Once all of your cables are connected you will then power on the desk before the speakers so that you avoid the pop from the speakers. The pop that happens when you turn on the speakers before the desk could damage the speakers.

To ensure that your speakers are working properly you can send white or pink noise through selected channels using the inbuilt oscillator to send the signal out. To set the oscillator up on the desk you would first go to set up on the desk and then into testing where you will find the option to select different frequencies such as white noise which is all the same frequency and pink noise which is random frequencies.

Operation of a sound system

To operate a sound system you need to make sure that your desk and speakers are powered on and they are receiving signals. The video below shows a time-lapse of me operating a sound desk as well as Qlab to trigger sound effects.

Cable Management
Coiling cables
Coiling cables is very important to do right otherwise you can damage the cables and the life of the cable will be shortened. To coil a cable you would first throw the cable out in front of you to get rid of any kinks. Then to coil the cable you would take a meter of the cable then twist your hand while bringing in the cable so that the cable will go into a coil. When your finished coiling the cables you would then get some LX tape to tape the cable in place so that the cable stays in place.
