Conventional Fixtures
Different types of fixtures
Fresnel
A fresnel is primarily a wash fixture. This is achieved by using barn doors, these can stop the spill of light on stage where you don't want it.
Flood
Floods are a wash of light that can be found as single units or multiple as seen in the picture these can be directed they can only be tilted together. They cannot be focused and only have a soft edge. They are used to wash the stage or can be used to light cyclorama.
Parcan
The beam can be changed to change the width of the beam, when used together they can be used as a flood. You change the width of the beam by changing the lamp and to have a horizontal beam or a vertical beam this can be changed by twisting the lamp housing at the back of the fixture.
Profile
A profile fixture has a range of features. The lights can also be directed using the two focus knobs. When you move the focus knob the lenses inside of the fixture move closer or further away from each other this creates either a soft edge or a hard edge and can also change how wide or narrow the beam.
Lighting Chain
Conventional Fixtures
Rigging
Rigging a conventional fixture is slightly different to rigging an Intelligent fixture as you do not need to connect any DMX cables to the fixture. To rig a conventional fixture you will first place the hook clamp over the bar and tighten the wing nut to secure the fixture. You will then attach the safety cable as seen in this photo making sure it goes through the yoke of the fixture. After this has been completed you can attach the power cable to an extension or to the dimmer to get the fixture working.

Focusing
To focus a profile there are two different places on the lantern that can focus the lantern. The first place is towards the back of the profile, we call these the shutters. Shutters can be used to direct the beam of light to where you want it, they can be used to create a corridor of light to get the effect of someone standing in a doorway. The second thing we can use to focus is the two focus knobs on the side of the fixture. One of these can be used to change the width of the beam, the other can be used to create a hard or soft edge.
