MODULE C (Technical production)
Props
Props are used in theatre to further enhance the performance of the actors. In this section I will be explaining the different types of props.
Personal Prop
A personal prop is a prop that is personal to the actor and can be used by only one actor. This prop would usually be kept in there dressing room.
Practical prop
A practical prop is a prop which work. Examples of this could be a Lamp, Phone or kettle.
Hand Prop
This prop is something which can be carried by the actor. These props are usually: Handbags, briefcases, and Mobile phones.
Consumable Prop
A consumable prop is something the actor can eat such as Food, Drinks and cigarette. This prop also needs to be replaced on a regular basis.
Breakaway prop
A breakaway prop is made specifically to break on stage. Examples of props like this could be a Bottle, Plate and a window.
Dressing Prop
A dressing prop is a prop which is used to dress the stage to make it look more natural but they ar e not integral to the plot. Examples of this could be a Rug, Curtains or Ornaments.
Paper prop
This prop is a prop that is made from paper E.G: Newspaper, Book or money.
